Malaysians have embraced every culture with open arms, and this is why they celebrate the festival of the world with so much enthusiasm.
1. Thaipusam
Thaipusam is an event celebrated by the Tamil community. The manifestation of Thaipusam can be seen at Batu Caves in Selangor or Penang as the population of Tamil citizen is high. There would be a jaw-dropping sight of devotees carrying ornately decorated frames, better known as kavadis. This apparently would stay with you for a long time after you experienced it. This unique festival is a sight to behold.
2. Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is celebrated worldwide by the Chinese. This celebration also can be found in Malaysia because of it’s s multiracial country. Chinese New Year is a commemoration by the Chinese to mark the first day of the New Year in Chinese lunar calendar. The celebrations will last for 15 days. There will be fireworks, lion dances and obviously the prominence of the color red.
3. Good Friday
Good Friday was held in churches to mark as the “saddest day” in the Christian calendar. This is observed in remembrance of Christs’ Passion, crucifixion, and death. On Sunday, there will be a post celebration, it is a celebration after Good Friday, which known as Easter Sunday. It is celebrated to commemorate the resurrection of Christ.
4. Malaysia Water Festival
A country with a natural setting of the lake, beach, sea, Malaysia to host this event every year with a variety of water-based sports. Activities such as kayaking, fishing, and swimming across the Straits promised a whole load of adrenalin pumping!
5. Wesak Day
Wesak Day is celebrated by Buddhists to pay homage to Buddha and to mark three important events in the life of the Buddha which are the birth, enlightenment, and attainment of Nirvana. The celebration begins with meditation and prayer. Donations made to the poor and needy.
